Y Nyth – Dancer Membership
A Home for Dance Artists in Powys
We know that sustaining a vibrant, high-quality dance practice in a rural area like Powys isn’t always easy. That’s why we created Y Nyth – a supportive, welcoming network for dancers who live, work, or aspire to work here, collectively shaping Powys into a thriving place for participatory dance careers.
Now evolving into a paid dancer membership, Y Nyth continues to offer connection, opportunities, and practical support – rooted in care, collaboration, and a belief in the power of dance to transform communities.
Wales is rich with freelance dance talent, and we’re committed to finding new, exciting ways to support this, not just by offering a connected network, but by giving artists a real voice and a seat at the table within arts organisations, our current staffing structure reflects our commitment to being a dancer-led organisation.
Impelo is a charity, but not a foundation. We’re an association, which means our members are at the heart of how we’re run. Creating a dancer and community membership is the first step in shaping a more inclusive, collaborative future for Impelo.
Our ambition to grow into a dancer- and user-led organisation begins here, and you can be part of it from the very start.
If you’re a dancer or practitioner looking to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
Let’s get into the details…..
Whether you run a dance school, work freelance, or practise independently, your membership directly helps shape our future. You help keep the studio open, champion dance in rural Mid Wales, and build a joyful, inclusive space for artists and communities alike.
Your investment in us means we can invest in you, through meaningful projects, tailored support, and opportunities that ensure dance continues to thrive in Powys, together.
We’re introducing a sliding scale membership model to help make Impelo’s dancer membership more accessible, while still supporting the sustainability of our work.
How it works:
You choose the membership price that best reflects your financial situation. Everyone receives the same benefits and support, this is about trust, fairness, and enabling more people to be part of our dancing community.
If a one-off payment presents a barrier, please get in touch regarding payment plan options.
-
For dancers who are on a low income or experiencing financial hardship.
We want you to be part of this community, please feel able to choose this rate if you need to. -
This is the average price we need to make the membership sustainable.
If this rate is affordable for you, it helps us cover the true cost of running the programme. -
If you’re financially comfortable, we’d love you to consider choosing this higher rate. You’ll be directly supporting access for other dancers who need the supported rate, and helping us grow a stronger, more equitable community.
Everyone, regardless of which rate you choose, will receive full membership perks, including:
Quarterly newsletters with all the latest from Impelo
Email updates featuring news, opportunities, and local networking events
Invites to movement sessions – a chance to take class with other dance artists in the area. (Currently running on selected Friday afternoons as part of ‘Freelancer Friday’. Once we're fully back in the studio, this day and time may shift to better suit the group’s availability.)
Paid or discounted Continued Professional Development / Training Opportunities (subject to funding and agreed with Impelo in advance)
Discounted studio hire, with access to our timetable so you can use the space for personal practice or to run your own sessions
(This applies to our dance centre in Llandrindod Wells, currently under refurbishment and reopening in autumn 2025)Opportunities to tender on paid opportunities that come through Impelo
Invitations to Board Meetings and the opportunity to vote at our AGM
Tailored support and advice, subject to staff capacity, to help you grow as a freelance artist in Powys
Connection to a pool of dance artists, offering peer support and collaboration across Wales.
And finally, by becoming a member, you’re directly investing in our studio staying open and accessible to dancers and the community. Your membership contribution helps us thrive, and that’s the magic.
